Gavenny Rod Co - thanks Matt

I went down to the brook the other day to try out a new toy.
This rod is a beautiful work by my friend Matt Davies at the Gavenny Rod Company in Wales.
Matt has a blog you should visit.. http://gavennyrodco.blogspot.com/

I am delighted and amazed by the quality of modern bamboo rods
This one is a hexagonal bamboo, six feet and eight inches.
Built to throw a #3wt line the rod has a cigar grip recessed at the butt to take the reel on a cork seat, thus saving weight and avoiding the need for a butt cap and saving more weight.
The ferrule is bamboo on bamboo and the fit is beautiful.
On her first day out the set of the ferrule was about 3mm long but as the day progressed the ferrule bedded in and by the end of the day it was a perfect fit.
I must admit I was a mite cautious with regard to the ferrule and how it would perform under stress.
It turned out that the rod is really fast, she handles a line perfectly for small stream work among jungle terrain.
This fine rainbow came to hand quickly and fully under control.

Thanks Matt for a beautiful rod
